The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), in partnership with the British Red Cross (BRC), is implementing the Nature Pulse programme in the Sundarbans region. This initiative aims to enhance the resilience and well-being of vulnerable coastal communities by promoting Nature-based Solutions (NBS) and climate-resilient livelihoods while restoring critical mangrove ecosystems. The program advocates for Climate Justice, empowers communities, and strengthens local and institutional capacities to adapt to climate change.
The Technical Officer – DRR & NBS will play a vital role in delivering technical guidance and supporting the implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Nature-based Solutions initiatives. The officer will work closely with local communities, BDRCS units, youth volunteers, and relevant stakeholders to promote sustainable, climate-resilient practices and ecosystem-based adaptation in the Sundarbans region.
Provide technical leadership and implementation support for DRR and NBS activities in collaboration with project teams, communities, and stakeholders.
Lead the planning and execution of Enhanced Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments (EVCA) related to DRR and NBS.
Develop and implement Plans of Action integrating climate change adaptation and disability inclusion.
Oversee on-ground NBS initiatives like mangrove restoration, ecosystem rehabilitation, and climate-resilient livelihoods.
Conduct community consultations to gather insights and tailor project interventions to local needs.
Serve as a liaison with stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, and local organizations to ensure coordinated project implementation.
Develop guidance tools and training materials to promote awareness and understanding of eco-DRR and NBS strategies.
Prepare reports, communication materials, and policy recommendations in support of project expansion and advocacy.
Support training and capacity-building sessions for community members, volunteers, and local government actors.
Ensure quality control through regular field monitoring, documentation of best practices, and collaboration with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team.
Collaborate with the BDRCS Narayanganj team to co-implement activities in urban settings as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Line Manager or relevant authority.
Bachelor’s or Honors degree in Disaster Management, Development Studies, Geography & Environment, Environmental Science & Management, Botany, Forestry & Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field.
Required:
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Disaster Management, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Nature-based Solutions (NBS), or climate change adaptation.
Previous experience with national or international development organizations.
Preferred:
Experience implementing livelihoods and DRR projects in coastal regions.
Familiarity with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Experience with innovative climate adaptation approaches.
Required:
Strong project coordination and deadline management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Bangla and English.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging environments.
Preferred:
Solid understanding of DRR and NBS project cycles.
Technical knowledge of climate adaptation strategies and ecosystem-based approaches.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, team collaboration, negotiation, and community facilitation.
